Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Patrick Odhiambo is not wasting any time in his quest for the 2025/2026 Kenya Premier League (KPL) title.
With the mid-season transfer window approaching, reports indicate that the tactician has moved to release six players, marking a significant shift in his strategy for the second half of the campaign.
The “Surplus” Six
The players reportedly informed they are no longer in Odhiambo’s plans include:
Edwin Mukolwe (Goalkeeper)
Josephat Lopaga (Forward)
Gospel Otieno
Enock Masinza
Gedeon Bendeka
Eugene Ochieng
This move comes as a surprise to some, as several of these players, like goalkeeper Edwin Mukolwe and Congolese import Gedeon Bendeka, were high-profile signings earlier in the season.
While Odhiambo has made his intentions clear, the club’s management has yet to formally approve the exits.
Strategic Ambition
The decision to trim the squad aligns with Odhiambo’s recent public statements about bolstering the team in the January window. “I am looking at bolstering the squad… we want the team to be stronger everywhere and be in the right shape to go full gas come the new year,” Odhiambo told the Kenya Media recently.
Homeboyz currently sits in sixth position on the KPL log, which justifies the coach’s “no-nonsense” approach to squad depth.
