In one of the most stunning group-stage upsets in recent CECAFA Kagame Cup history, South Sudanese Premier League champions Jamus SC have sealed their place in the semi-finals, sending Tanzanian giants Simba SC and defending champions Singida Black Stars FC packing.
Saber Ben Jabria’s disciplined Jamus side navigated Group B undefeated to claim top spot with 7 points, writing a historic chapter for South Sudanese club football on the regional stage.
Going into Friday’s final group matches, Group B was wide open, but Jamus SC held their destiny firmly in their own hands at the Kigali Pelé Stadium.
Jamus SC 2–1 Mogadishu City Club
At the Kigali Pele Stadium, Mogadishu City Club took a surprising lead just before half-time courtesy of an own goal by Thomas Bawak Eta in the 40th minute. However, the South Sudanese champions responded like true contenders after the restart.
Two quickfire goals in the span of four minutes—first by Mario Taban Cherelino in the 55th minute and then Lawrent Ramazani in the 59thh minute—turned the tie around and booked Jamus an automatic semi-final berth.
Over at the Amahoro Stadium, Tanzanian titans Simba SC battled to a 2–1 victory against fellow countrymen Singida Black Stars.
Ibrahim Doumbia gave Simba an early advantage in the 27th minute before Kenyan forward Mathew Tegisi equalized for Singida shortly after the interval (51′). Elie Nkibisawala Mpazu restored Simba’s lead in the 66th minute to secure all three points.
Despite the victory, Simba’s total of 5 points wasn’t enough to secure the top spot, leaving both Tanzanian powerhouses eliminated from the tournament.
Jamus SC showed championship character to recover from a goal down against Mogadishu City, ensuring they didn’t have to rely on goal-difference math.
Neither Simba SC nor last year’s winners Singida Black Stars could find the consistency needed to breach the top spot, marking a quiet and early exit for two pre-tournament favorites.
