Sunrise FC, a Rwanda Division Two side, has officially terminated the contract of Head Coach Jackson Mayanja due to the team’s failure to qualify for the playoffs.
The decision, effective immediately, reflects the club’s determination to stabilize its performance and return to the top-tier division.
Mayanja’s Tenure
Mayanja, a Uganda Cranes legend, was appointed as Sunrise’s head coach in November 2023, tasked with guiding the team back to the Rwanda Premier League. Despite being given a second chance after failing to prevent relegation in the previous season, Mayanja’s team finished third in Group B with 41 points, falling short of the playoff spots.

New Coach on the Horizon
With Mayanja’s contract set to expire in June, the club has decided not to renew it. A new coach will be appointed to lead the team back to the Premier League. Marcel Lomami, a renowned coach who previously qualified Gasogi United and Gorilla FC to the Premier League, is reportedly among the top candidates for the position.
