In a nail-biting finale at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, Tanzania’s U15 girls’ national team clinched the CAF African Schools Football Championship CECAFA Qualifiers 2025 title, defeating Ethiopia in a dramatic penalty shootout (5-4) after a 0-0 draw. The match was a tense battle of defensive prowess, with both teams showcasing skill and determination, and goalkeepers stealing the show.
In the shootout, Tanzania’s composure shone through, securing the $100,000 prize and a spot at the continental finals. Ethiopia took home $75,000 as runners-up, while hosts Uganda claimed third place with a 2-0 win over Burundi, earning $50,000 and the final CECAFA ticket.
“The intensity was immense, but my players showed incredible heart and discipline,” said Tanzania’s Head Coach, proud of her team’s mental strength. “We carry the hopes of East and Central Africa we’ll make a statement at the African Schools Football Championship finals.”
Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Uganda now to represent CECAFA on the continental stage.
