Toyota’s Evans gets back to back wins after Safari Rally victory

Toyota Gazoo’s Elfyn Evans has secured a back to back World Rally Championship round. A history to remember in his life because it’s the first time for him to archive.

Evans won the Safari Rally Kenya on Sunday to extend his world championship lead to 36 points.

Co-driven by Scott Martin, Evans’ win came just after 35 days from his Swedish WRC round win.

Evans, said after the victory, that it was a great win for the team, as they worked towards.

“What an amazing weekend. An incredible support throughout and amazing to see the finish line here thank you, everyone. It means a lot as a Toyota driver to continue that run of wins here at Safari. It is very important for the team, they work really hard for this and they deserve it,” he said.

Standings after Safari Rally.

Hyundai’s Ott Tanak was second, more than a minute behind, with his team mate Thierry Neuville coming in third position.

Tanak led the race from start before breaking a driveshaft on Friday this extending Hyundai’s jinx of not winning the Safari Rally.

Finish and Toyota driver Sami Pajari was fourth, as team mate, Japanese Takamoto Katsuta finished fifth.

The win was Evans’ second from three rounds done so far. It extended his world championship lead to 36 points.

Evans was runner-up in the Monte Carlo which was the season-opener. He now has 88 points to Neuville’s 52 and Tanak’s 49.
