Tragedy Strikes: Uganda Football Fraternity Mourns the Loss of Goalkeeper Fredrick Wangwa

The Ugandan football community is reeling from the devastating news of the tragic and untimely death of goalkeeper Fredrick Wangwa, a beloved figure known for his spell with Jinja North FC in the FUFA Big League and most recently with Bugembe United Football Club.

Wangwa, described as a professional, dedicated, and inspiring player, was over the weekend reportedly killed in cold blood by hitmen in Bugembe, Jinja City, in a painful incident involving boda boda riders.

A Career Cut Short!
Wangwa was not just a player; he was a rising star and a vital member of the teams he represented. His tenure with Jinja North FC saw him perform at the second-tier level of Ugandan football, where his shot-stopping abilities and commitment were regularly on display.

The deceased, whose burial is scheduled for today, is remembered for posting heroic performance against Vipers SC in the Uganda Cup game that took place on 15th/Feb/2023, where he was stretchered off after a brave collision, showcasing his sheer dedication to the team’s cause.

He then became a core part of the Bugembe United FC family, where he was revered as a brother and a source of inspiration, both on and off the pitch. The club’s official condolence message, issued by PRO Sultan Wani, speaks volumes about the void he leaves behind. “He was more than a player to us he was a brother, a teammate, a hard-working professional, and a source of inspiration both on and off the pitch. His dedication, discipline, humility, and passion for the game will forever remain in our hearts. Shock and Sorrow
The nature of his death allegedly a targeted attack in Bugembe has sent shockwaves through the local and national football fraternity, highlighting the painful loss of a talented life under such brutal circumstances.

The tragedy has been felt most acutely by the people of Kagoma, Buwenge sub county and his immediate family, who are now left to mourn a beloved son and professional.

Fredrick Wangwa’s memory a dedicated sportsman, a disciplined professional, and a humble individual will undoubtedly be honored by his former clubs and teammates.

His spirit and passion for football will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
