Uganda Badminton team flagged off for All Africa Badminton Championship

Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) has flagged off eight players to represent Uganda in the All Africa Badminton Championship in Cameroon. The ceremony took place today at National Council of Sports Headquarters in Lugogo.

The team will fly out on Sunday night for the one-week tournament scheduled to take place in Cameroon, Douala from the 10th to 16th February 2025.

The team comprising of four men and four women will compete in the men’s singles, women’s singles men’s doubles and mixed doubles categories.

Team Uganda will be captained by Amos Muyanja. He expressed his gratitude as he said, “We are looking forward for gold medals and everyone on the team is targeting at least two medals.”

“We’ve been preparing for a while and it’s been a month so we now expect to bring the best out of us. We are prepared and we have the confidence so we shall do our best and we promise good results,” Mayanja added.

The team, under coach Ivan Karimunda, has been in residential training in Ndejje and feel they are ready to put up an outstanding show.

“We know our teams will come up against top sides, but we shall take every match as it comes,” the coach added.

UBA chairman Nakamya Annet felt optimistic in the travelling team’s chances.

“I think they’ve had some good training and were placed in the good hands of a well qualified level Two BWF certified coach. So, I’m confident that they will deliver, the team spirit is good and worked together as a team.”

“Besides winning, the tournament will help expose the future stars, monitor and elevating them to the next stage (senior level) and get the results across the continent. This will help as they go along in their playing careers into their professional levels.” she added.

Simon Mugabi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) told Rora Media that they are very optimistic that the team will perform well at the All Africa Badminton Championship .
