Uganda’s representative in the African Rally Championship (ARC), Yasin Nasser, has maintained his lead in the prestigious championship. With one round left, Nasser is in a strong position to emulate Uganda’s 1999 ARC title win, courtesy of the late Charles Muhangi.

Nasser’s Consistent Performance
Nasser, co-driven by Ali Katumba in a Ford Fiesta MKRally2 (NEMO), finished second behind Kenyan Samman Vohra in the Burundi round. Despite posting a time of 01:54:49.1 hours, 10 minutes and 27.7 seconds behind the winner, Nasser’s consistent performance has kept him at the top of the ARC standings.
Championship Standings
After the Burundi round, the ARC standings are as follows:
- Yasin Nasser – 118 points
- Samman Singh Vohra – 106 points
- Nikhil Sachania – 77 points
- Carl Tundo – 50 points
- Prince Charles Nyerere – 46 points

Tanzanian Rally to Decide the Champion
In 2013, Jas Mangat tried and fell out with two rounds left. Last year, Nasser had put and failed with two rounds left. Now with only one round left, the Tanzanian Rally (September 19th-21st), Nasser needs to finish fifth and collect 25 points or better to secure the championship title. Given his current lead, the odds are in his favor to bring home the title and end Uganda’s 25-year wait for an ARC championship win.
