The Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) on Friday handed over sparkling winners’ trophies to key tournament partners Airtel Uganda, Lakhani Motors and Sure Pay ahead of this weekend’s Uganda Open at Kabojja International School.
The symbolic handover also served as an appreciation ceremony, with UTTA recognising the partners whose financial and logistical support has kept the annual championship alive.

Lakhani Motors’ Sales Manager Ayub Quresni, who represented Managing Director Abubakar Memon, reaffirmed the car dealer’s long-term commitment to the sport.
“We are proud to stand with UTTA,” Quresni said. “Our support to table tennis and other sports disciplines in Uganda will continue because we believe in nurturing talent.”
Airtel Uganda’s Public Relations Manager, David Birungi, emphasised that their partnership with UTTA is built on shared vision.
“Our relationship with UTTA grows stronger every year,” Birungi noted. “Airtel is investing not just in events but in the future of the sport. We want to create lasting impact for young athletes.”
Sure Pay’s Marketing and Communication Manager, Ibrahim Muyombya, echoed similar sentiments, pledging continued collaboration.

“We see table tennis as a growing sport with great potential,” Muyombya said. “Sure Pay will remain committed to partnering with UTTA and contributing to the broader development of sports in Uganda.”
UTTA General Secretary Joseph Rukundo extended heartfelt thanks to the sponsors, stressing that their support has been critical to the event’s growth.
“These partners have kept faith with us,” Rukundo stated. “Because of their contribution, we are able to host a strong field of over 200 players, including participants from Kenya.”
He added that winners in various categories will walk away with trophies, medals and cash prizes as the two-day competition gets underway.
