The Victoria Pearls kicked off their 2025 Victoria Series campaign in style, registering a convincing 7-wicket victory over Canada at the Lugogo Cricket Oval. A disciplined bowling performance, led by Kevin Amuge’s exceptional 4/17, set up a comfortable chase for Uganda, which was anchored by captain Janet Mbabazi’s unbeaten 37.

Amuge’s brilliant bowling, coupled with excellent support from Immaculate Nakisuuyi (2/13), Sarah Akiteng, and Naome Jane Amongin, restricted Canada to just 67 runs in 19 overs. The Canadian batsmen struggled to find momentum, with only Achini Perera (13) and Amarpal Kaur (18) reaching double figures.
In response, Uganda’s openers Janet Mbabazi and Esther Iloku laid a solid foundation. Although Iloku was dismissed early, Mbabazi remained steadfast, guiding her team to victory with an unbeaten 37. Rita Musamali and Immaculate Nakisuuyi also contributed to the chase, which was marked by pragmatism and composure.

Kevin Amuge was adjudged Player of the Match for her match-winning bowling performance. Uganda’s captain, Janet Mbabazi, acknowledged the positive result but highlighted areas for improvement, particularly in batting. Canada’s captain, Amarpal Kaur, graciously conceded Uganda’s dominance and expressed optimism for future matches.
Uganda will face Canada again in Game 2, scheduled for 2:00 PM tomorrow at the Lugogo Cricket Oval, where they will aim to build on their momentum.
