Wananchi Hockey Club ended the season not just as champions, but as the defining story of Ugandan hockey after producing one of the most unusual and calculated finishes the league has seen. What unfolded at Lugogo on Saturday was less about the final score and more about a bold tactical gamble that paid off in spectacular fashion.

Knowing Jackson Musinguzi needed a massive haul to overturn an 11-goal deficit in the golden-stick race, Wananchi built their entire approach around him. Every attack, every pass, every overload in the circle was engineered to put Musinguzi on the end of the final touch. The result was a staggering 15 goals from a single player in a 15–2 dismantling of Titans a performance that not only sealed the league title with 52 points but also delivered Musinguzi the top-scorer crown with 46 goals, edging Weatherhead’s Brian Okodi on 44.

Elsewhere, Kampala Hockey Club wrapped up their season professionally, brushing aside Rockets 6–0 to secure second place on 43 points.

But Wananchi’s dominance stretched beyond the men’s category. Their junior women’s side, HDF, clinched the women’s championship on goal difference despite being beaten 4–0 by their senior counterparts on the final day. With both teams under the same umbrella, the title still stayed within the Wananchi system marking a first-ever triumph for the rising HDF side and reinforcing the club’s depth.

All champions, including Wananchi’s double-winning sides, will officially be crowned at the season-ending ceremony on November 30.
