UPDF FC Defeat Lugazi FC 2-0 in Uganda Premier League Clash at Bombo

UPDF FC claimed a solid 2-0 victory over Lugazi FC in a Uganda Premier League match held at Bombo Barracks on Friday.

The game started with an early penalty opportunity for UPDF through Shafik Kakande, but their effort was thwarted as Lugazi’s goalkeeper Juma Mutebi made a crucial save. The match remained goalless as both teams struggled to break the deadlock in the opening minutes, with UPDF pressing hard.

In the 15th minute, UPDF finally made the breakthrough. Emmanuel Ochan found the net to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. The pressure continued to mount on Lugazi, who struggled to contain the attacking force of UPDF. As the first half progressed, the visitors found themselves on the defensive, with UPDF keeper Shamulan Kamya being treated for injuries at various points in the match.

At halftime, the score remained 1-0 in favour of UPDF.

The second half saw further dominance from UPDF. In the 50th minute, Joseph Janjali doubled their lead, with a well-executed strike following a good build-up from the team. Lugazi, now trailing by two goals, made several changes to try and regain control of the match, but their efforts were in vain.

The match took a turn in the 70th minute when Lugazi’s Paul Wasswa received a red card for a second bookable offense, further diminishing their hopes of a comeback.

Despite a late surge from Lugazi, the hosts held firm and sealed the win with a final score of 2-0. The victory saw UPDF leapfrog Lugazi FC in the 12th position with both teams with nine points each. But UPDF have a better head to head.
