Daniel Walusimbi and Twaha Morgan Kubiriza, the dynamic duo from Cavendish University Uganda (CUU), are trading their football boots for law books after a standout performance at the 2025 Football Law Annual Moot (FLAM) in Abuja, Nigeria. The pair, who finished as second runners-up in the prestigious competition, have been offered internships with PCN Sportiva LP, a leading Nigerian law firm specializing in sports law.

Managed by renowned international sports lawyer Pius C. Ndubuokwo, PCN Sportiva LP handles high-profile football disputes before FIFA and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Walusimbi and Kubiriza impressed the judges with their arguments on “The Role of International Arbitral Tribunals in Maintaining Contractual Stability in Football,” a hypothetical case involving a Ugandan club and a Nigerian player.

The FLAM competition drew 45 African universities, with Adekunle Ajasin University (AAU) taking the top spot and University of Lagos (UNILAG) as first runners-up. The event, partnered with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), featured a star-studded panel of arbitrators, including CAS’s Ricardo De Buen, FIFA agent George Gradev, and Khayran Noor of the East Africa Law Society.

“This is a million-dollar experience,” said Daniel Walusimbi, who played for SC Villa. “Facing the arbitrators we hope to work with someday gave me a crash course in handling cases and laws.” The internship offers a promising start for Walusimbi and Kubiriza as they dive into sports law, shaping the future of African football governance
