Group A of the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations has been decided following a dramatic final matchday played simultaneously across Morocco on Monday evening.

Tournament hosts Morocco sent a strong statement of intent as they swept aside Zambia 3–0 in Rabat, reaffirming their status as one of the competition’s leading title contenders. Striker Ayoub El Kaabi continued his fine form with a clinical brace, while Brahim Díaz capped a dominant display with the third goal to seal a comfortable win.

In the other Group A fixture, Mali showed resilience and tactical discipline to secure a vital 0–0 draw against Comoros in Casablanca, despite playing much of the contest with ten men. The hard-earned point was enough to carry the Eagles through in second place, underlining their ability to manage high-pressure situations.

The final results confirmed Morocco as group winners with seven points, with Mali finishing second on three points, both advancing to the Round of 16. Comoros and Zambia, who each finished on two points, bowed out at the group stage after spirited and competitive campaigns that pushed their more fancied opponents until the final matchday.

With Group A now concluded, attention turns to the knockout phase, where Morocco will look to build on home advantage and momentum, while Mali prepare for the next challenge with confidence born of resilience and organisation.
