The East African football community is in shock following the tragic death of Kakamega Homeboyz player Silas Abungana.
The Kenyan Premier League side confirmed that Abungana passed away just before midnight on Wednesday, February 4, at the Kakamega County General Hospital. He had been admitted after sustaining severe head injuries during an attack on Tuesday night.
While official details remain thin, reports indicate the fatal assault allegedly involved a family member. The club has asked for privacy for the family and teammates as they process the “unimaginable loss.”
Abungana was a promising figure for the “Abana Abeingo.” His passing has drawn condolences from across the border in Uganda, where fans and players alike have stood in solidarity with the Kenyan football fraternity.
The club is expected to issue further communication regarding funeral arrangements in due course.
