NEC FC secure an emphatic 3-1 victory over KCCA FC in a pulsating encounter under the floodlights in the Uganda Premier League at Lugogo.
KCCA dominated early possession and created the first clear chance inside seven minutes, but Joel Sserunjogi failed to convert. NEC, however, made their moment count in the 22nd minute when Richard Basangwa found the breakthrough to hand the hosts a 1-0 lead. Despite KCCA’s continued pressure and a series of set-piece opportunities, NEC held firm to carry their advantage into halftime.

The visitors responded swiftly after the restart. Ivan Ahimbisibwe levelled matters in the 49th minute, finishing off a move assisted by Umar Lutalo to make it 1-1. The equaliser injected intensity into the contest, with both sides pushing forward and several bookings issued as tempers flared.
NEC regained control in the 70th minute when Joseph Seremba restored the lead with a well-taken strike off Kagawa Ssenoga’s assist. Moments later, Basangwa completed his brace to stretch the advantage to 3-1, effectively sealing the contest despite late substitutions from both benches.

The victory lifted NEC to 23 points in seventh position on the table, while KCCA FC remained fifth with 30 points after failing to capitalise on their early dominance.

What a fantastic performance by Basangwa! It’s great to see NEC playing with so much energy and determination.
