The mood at KCCA FC has shifted from frustration to urgency. Friday’s 3-1 setback against NEC FC at Omondi Stadium did more than dent pride — it exposed a side drifting further from its title aspirations in the Uganda Premier League.
Now sixth on the 16-team table, the Kasasiro Boys find themselves chasing shadows. Leaders Vipers SC could widen the gap even further depending on their result against NEC, leaving KCCA with little room for recovery in a campaign already defined by inconsistency.
Tonight’s clash with BUL FC under the Lugogo floodlights carries more than three points. It represents a pivotal moment in a season that risks unravelling. A third consecutive defeat would not only weaken their championship credentials but also intensify scrutiny around head coach Brian Ssenyondo, whose future is already the subject of murmurs within the club’s hierarchy. Veteran tactician Sam Ssimbwa has reportedly emerged as a possible alternative should results fail to improve.

But BUL arrive with belief of their own. The Jinja side, now eighth with 20 points, have rediscovered rhythm since Alex Isabirye’s return for a third spell in charge. A recent 1-1 draw with Vipers underlined their resilience, and a strong run in recent weeks suggests they are capable of upsetting a wounded giant.
Recent meetings underline how evenly matched these sides have become. In December at the FUFA Technical Centre, KCCA required a stoppage-time winner to edge BUL 2-1, while last season BUL celebrated a famous victory at Lugogo.
Elsewhere on the matchday schedule, Express FC travel to face Calvary FC at Midigo Playground in Yumbe, hoping to secure a league double. Meanwhile, relegation tension takes centre stage at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe where Lugazi FC host UPDF FC in a clash that could shape the survival battle.
For KCCA, however, the equation is simple: respond decisively or watch the season slip beyond reach.

That’s a tough pill to swallow for KCCA, really puts the pressure on them going forward. It will be interesting to see how they respond, especially with the BUL test looming.
