Ivan Ahimbisibwe delivered a striker’s masterclass to propel KCCA FC past Buhimba United Saints FC with a commanding 2-0 victory at Royals Park, Butema on Monday, a result that tightens the race at the top of the Uganda Premier League.
Rather than a routine away win, this was a statement performance led by a forward in red-hot form. Ahimbisibwe struck once in each half to take his season tally to nine goals, drawing level with Ambrose Kigozi in the race for the Golden Boot. His movement and composure in front of goal once again underlined his growing importance to the Cityzens’ title ambitions.
Coach Brian Ssenyondo tweaked his lineup with Herbert Achayi returning from injury, a move that added balance to the side. KCCA’s breakthrough arrived just before halftime when Saidi Mayanja capitalized on Joel Sserunjogi’s delivery to set up Ahimbisibwe for a close-range finish.
The second half saw fresh energy injected into the visitors’ play, including the debut of Kennedy Muselero, as KCCA maintained control. Late substitutions kept the tempo high, and in the 87th minute Ahimbisibwe capped off the evening with a clinical second goal to silence the hosts and secure maximum points.
The victory lifts KCCA into third place on 36 points, just two behind leaders Vipers SC, reigniting belief as they prepare to host Police in their next outing.
