KCCA v Police

KCCA FC return to the floodlights of the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Friday night looking to strengthen their push for the Uganda Premier League title when they take on Police FC in a high-stakes encounter.

The Kasasiro Boys head into the contest buoyed by a 2-0 victory away to Buhimba United Saints, a result that has kept them firmly in the race at the top end of the table. Sitting third with 36 points, KCCA know that another win would keep the pressure on the leaders as the season moves into its decisive phase.

Police FC, however, travel to Lugogo with ambitions of their own. The Cops are sixth on the standings with 32 points and remain within touching distance of the top four despite a recent 2-0 home defeat to BUL. A positive result in Kampala would revive their momentum and reinforce their credentials as contenders for a strong finish.

There is also a sense of unfinished business for KCCA. Police stunned them 2-0 in the reverse fixture earlier this year, ending a long wait for a league victory over the 13-time champions. That result was Police’s first win over KCCA in more than a decade, in a fixture that has historically tilted heavily in favour of the Lugogo side.

Across their last 28 meetings, KCCA have dominated the rivalry with 17 wins compared to Police’s single triumph, while ten matches have ended in draws. The goal tally also reflects that dominance, with KCCA scoring more than twice as many goals as their opponents in those encounters.

Despite that history, KCCA co-coach Jackson Magera has called on his players to remain focused and approach the match with the seriousness it deserves.

He emphasised that representing the club comes with responsibility and urged the squad to fight for every result as they attempt to restore KCCA to the summit of Ugandan football.

In terms of team news, KCCA could soon be boosted by the return of Angolan winger Etienne Katenga and Brazilian Joao Gabriel, who are both closing in on full match fitness. However, assistant captain Derrick Nsibambi remains sidelined with a knee injury, leaving the rest of the squad available for selection.

With both teams chasing important objectives and recent history adding extra intrigue, Friday night’s meeting at Lugogo promises to be a fiercely contested affair.
