Kampala University (KU) have booked their spot in the semifinals of the Pepsi University Football League, advancing on the away goals rule after a tense 0-0 draw with Bugema University at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.

Having secured a 1-1 draw in the first leg away, KU knew that a clean sheet would be enough to progress. The students executed a disciplined, defence-first game plan, frustrating Bugema throughout the contest.

Goalkeeper David Wafula remained largely untroubled, supported by a resolute backline featuring Joel Mulwana, Marvin Onea, and Benjamin Nsubuga. The trio kept Bugema’s key threats, Patrick Nuwatuha and Kenneth Bukenya, under wraps as the hosts struggled to create clear scoring opportunities.

The first half was a midfield battle, with few chances for either side. KU soaked up pressure after the break as Bugema searched desperately for the goal that would have turned the tie in their favour. Despite their efforts, the visitors’ defensive discipline ensured no breakthrough came.

The deciding factor was Gideon Nsubuga’s penalty in the first leg, KU’s lone away goal proving the difference over the two matches.

KU now return to the semifinals for the first time since last season, confident of challenging for a third PUFL title. For Bugema, the quarterfinal exit adds another chapter to their ongoing quest for a first championship.

The focus now shifts to Masaka, where Muteesa 1 Royal University host defending champions Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) in the second leg, with UMU holding a 2-1 advantage from the opening match.
