The inaugural FIFA Women’s Series roared to life at the Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday, delivering a day of high-octane football as Kenya’s Harambee Starlets and the Australian Matildas booked their places in the grand final.

In the headline clash of the day, host nation Kenya defied the FIFA rankings to pull off a clinical 2–0 victory over India.
Despite India being ranked 67 places higher, the Starlets used their physicality and the energy of a vocal home crowd to dominate from the opening whistle.

The breakthrough came just two minutes in. Following a dangerous cross from Fasila Adhiambo, Indian goalkeeper Shreya Hooda parried the ball directly into the path of Martha Amunyolete, who made no mistake in slotting home the opener.

Kenya’s defense remained resolute throughout, even after a frightening first-half head collision forced a tactical reshuffle and the substitution of key defender Ruth Ingosi.

The Starlets effectively killed the game in the 57th minute when tereza Obunya (Obungu) latched onto a well-timed through ball, splitting the Indian backline to double the lead.

Earlier in the afternoon, world power Australia displayed their championship pedigree with a ruthless 5–0 demolition of Malawi’s Scorchers.

The Matildas took control early through Emily van Egmond in the 5th minute, followed by a trademark strike from captain Sam Kerr just before the break.

Malawi, missing their star Chawinga sisters, fought bravely but struggled to bridge the gap against the seasoned Australians.

Second-half goals from Alex Chidiac, Holly McNamara, and a debut strike from Leticia McKenna capped off a five-star performance for the visitors.

The Road Ahead:
The results set up a mouth-watering final between Kenya and Australia, scheduled for Wednesday, April 15, at 6:00 PM.

For the Harambee Starlets, the final serves as a crucial litmus test ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). While Australia will enter as heavy favorites, Kenya’s performance today suggests they are more than ready to hold their own against elite global opposition.

Wednesday Fixtures:
Third-Place Playoff: India vs. Malawi (2:00 PM)
Grand Final:
Kenya vs. Australia (6:00 PM)

Saturday Results:
Australia 5-0 Malawi
Kenya 2-0 India
