After months of frustration and near misses, Calvary FC finally have a breakthrough moment to celebrate in the Uganda Premier League.

The Yumbe-based newcomers, who have endured a difficult introduction to top-flight football, registered their first-ever league win with a convincing 2-0 triumph over fellow strugglers Buhimba United Saints on Saturday.

Playing at Midigo Primary School Playground, Calvary showed a level of confidence and urgency that had been missing for much of their campaign. Their determination paid off early, as they took control of the game in the opening stages and never looked back.

The breakthrough came just seven minutes into the match when Lawrence Olaboro calmly converted from the penalty spot after a foul on Simon Peter Odeke. The early goal lifted the hosts and set the tone for a dominant first-half display.

Olaboro returned to the spotlight minutes before the break, doubling Calvary’s advantage with a well-taken finish to give his side a comfortable cushion heading into halftime.

In the second half, Buhimba attempted to mount a comeback, pushing forward in search of a lifeline. However, Calvary remained disciplined at the back, managing the game effectively to secure a historic result.

While the victory does little to immediately lift Calvary off the bottom of the table—now on eight points—it injects fresh belief into their survival hopes. For Buhimba, who sit just above them, the defeat deepens their relegation concerns as the battle to stay up intensifies.
