URA v Maroons
URA head into today’s late kickoff at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo desperate to halt a worrying slide when they face Maroons in a fixture that carries weight at both ends of the table.
The Tax Collectors have gone five league matches without a win, a run that has dragged them into uncomfortable territory. Their last victory dates back to March 11 against Lugazi, and since then they have struggled for consistency, picking up three defeats and two draws. Their most recent outing ended in a goalless draw away to relegation-threatened UPDF in Bombo, a result that did little to ease pressure.
Sitting 11th on 24 points, URA are still not mathematically safe, and the urgency for points is growing as the season edges toward its decisive phase. Head coach Hussein Mbalangu will be demanding a response, especially with the team’s attacking output and finishing coming under scrutiny in recent matches.
Maroons, however, arrive with their own motivations. The Prison Warders are 9th on 33 points and remain in the hunt for a top-eight finish. A victory could even see them climb further up the standings, depending on results elsewhere, particularly BUL’s home fixture against NEC in the early kickoff at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
Historically, the fixture has been closely contested. In the last 14 league meetings, URA hold a slight upper hand with four wins compared to Maroons’ three, while seven encounters have ended level, underlining how evenly matched the sides have been over time.
Elsewhere, Mbarara City will look to strengthen their survival push when they welcome seven-time champions Express to Rwamanja Stadium in Kamwenge in another key league encounter.
