The chase for Uganda’s top basketball honours is entering its decisive phase after the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) confirmed the schedule for the National Basketball League playoffs.
Following a brief delay to accommodate national team engagements and international competitions, the postseason is now set to get underway on July 10 at YMCA Court in Wandegeya, launching nearly two months of high-stakes action that will culminate in September.
The opening night will feature two quarterfinal clashes, with the Magic Stormers battling the Pearl Queens in the women’s category before the UCU Canons and Victoria Crocs square off in the men’s competition.
The revised calendar sets the stage for an intense race to the championship, with teams now turning their focus from securing playoff positions to navigating the demanding knockout format.
Eight teams from each division will qualify for the playoffs after the regular season, while the bottom two sides face relegation. Teams finishing ninth and tenth miss out on postseason action altogether.
The quarterfinals will be contested over a best-of-three series, rewarding consistency while leaving little room for error. Successful teams will then progress to the best-of-five semifinals, scheduled to begin on August 21.
Attention will ultimately shift to the finals, where the men’s and women’s champions will be determined in best-of-seven series starting on September 11.
With the title race approaching, every game now carries added significance as teams prepare for the most demanding stretch of the season.
