Ghana will attempt to halt one of the tournament’s most in-form sides when they take on England in a crucial FIFA World Cup 2026 Group H encounter in Boston on Tuesday.
The Black Stars know a positive result could significantly boost their hopes of reaching the knockout stages, but standing in their way is an England team brimming with confidence after an emphatic 4-2 victory over Croatia in their opening match.
England’s attacking display against the Croatians has been widely praised, with manager Thomas Tuchel believing his players are thriving because they have been given the freedom to express themselves.

“I’m very happy and a very lucky coach because they arrived at the World Cup with this mindset,” Tuchel told FIFA. “We just encourage them to play with freedom, especially in the attacking positions.”
The Three Lions were particularly impressive after the break against Croatia, producing a performance that midfielder Declan Rice described as a benchmark for the rest of the campaign.
“That second-half performance was probably one of the best 45 minutes of football we’ve played under Thomas,” Rice said. “We believe that if we can do that from the opening minute, we can beat any opponent in the World Cup.”

For Ghana, containing England captain Harry Kane will be among the biggest challenges. Rice was full of admiration for the prolific striker, saying: “You can tell the kids when you’re older that you got to play with Harry Kane. That’s how good he is.”
Despite England entering the contest as favourites, Tuchel has warned against complacency, insisting his players must remain focused on the task at hand.
“One of our key principles is to behave and play like it’s always 0-0,” he said. “The next pass counts, the next action counts, the next tackle is important.”
With Ghana chasing a statement result and England aiming to move a step closer to the Round of 32, an intriguing contest awaits in Boston.
