Kyadondo Rugby Club will transform into a hub of electrifying sport and vibrant celebration this weekend as the Coronation 7s Cup kicks off the 2025 Nile Special Rugby Sevens Circuit.
Far more than just a tournament, the event promises a blend of fierce competition and festive spirit, setting the tone for the weeks ahead on Uganda’s rugby calendar.
With over 20 men and women teams confirmed, this year’s circuit is already being hailed as one of the most competitive and inclusive editions.
The Sevens format, known for its pace and unpredictability, will be on full display, both on the pitch and in the stands.
On the men’s side, defending champions Heathens headline Pool A and enter with the tactical advantage of national team coach Tolbert Onyango guiding them.
However, early signs suggest they won’t have it all their way, Walukuba Barbarians, among their group opponents are tipped as potential spoilers.
In Pool B, the spotlight falls on the Stanbic Black Pirates. Their draw is no walkover either with seasoned campaigners Jinja Hippos, Sharks, and Elgon Wolves all looking to crash the party.
Rhinos, Buffaloes, Warriors, and Gulu Falcons will scrap it out in Pool C while Kobs, a team always in the title conversation, will face Mongers, Rams, and Impis in Pool D.
The women’s competition adds another layer of excitement, with two tightly contested pools. Avengers, Panthers, She Wolves, and Nile Rapids are set for an open fight in Pool A, while Pool B features a loaded lineup of title hopefuls in Thunderbirds, Black Pearls, Walukuba Titans, and Ewes.
