Kitara FC have made a statement of intent by convincing seasoned defender Murushid Juuko to return to competitive football, ending months of speculation about his future. The Hoima-based side, eager to cement themselves as serious contenders in the Uganda Premier League, handed the 31-year-old a two-year contract that will run until 2027.
For Kitara, Juuko’s arrival is more than just another signing—it is a reinforcement of experience, leadership, and resilience. The former Uganda Cranes stalwart brings with him a wealth of pedigree from both domestic and regional football, having featured for Vipers, Express, Simba SC of Tanzania, and Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca. His decorated career includes a league crown and CECAFA Kagame Cup title with Express, alongside multiple campaigns on the continent.
The centre-back, admired for his sharp reading of the game, aerial command, and uncompromising tackling, becomes the Royals’ fifth addition this transfer window, joining Isa Lumu, Sadiq Sekyembe, Henry Musisi, and Amir Kakomo.
Juuko had been off the radar since his short stint at Vipers in the 2022/23 season, focusing instead on running his confectionery business. While he never officially hung up his boots, his prolonged absence had left many wondering if his playing days were over—until Kitara came calling.
Club officials unveiled him on Thursday with a bold message: “Experience meets ambition! Wall Upgraded! Juuko is officially a Royal!”
For a player who retired from international duty in early 2022 after over 40 caps with the Cranes, the return marks a fresh chapter. And for Kitara, it is a timely boost in their push to challenge the established giants of Ugandan football.
