The 2025 National Novices Boxing Championship has officially begun at the Lugogo National Council of Sports Complex in Kampala, Uganda. Over 900 upcoming boxers from diverse schools, clubs, and community programs across the nation have gathered to participate in the championship, which will run until Saturday, September 6, 2025.
The event kicked off with the official weigh-in and medicals on Saturday, followed by the start of action-packed boxing matches on Monday. Approximately 400 boxers will participate in around 200 bouts throughout the week, culminating in finals on Saturday.

Michelle Nakkazi, the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) Competition Manager, emphasized the importance of this event in nurturing future champions. “We commenced with the novices weighing in on Saturday, registering a remarkable 847 boxers. Today marks the first day of action, featuring approximately 200 bouts involving 400 boxers.”
Sula Kamoga, the Vice President of the Uganda Boxing Federation, highlighted the significance of the National Novice Championship, stating that it provides a pathway to the national team and the prestigious Champions League. “The top two boxers in each weight category qualify for the Champions League.”

Kamoga added that the Uganda Boxing Federation is fully prepared for the championship, with a variety of prizes and awards awaiting the top performers and clubs.
Lukanga Boxing Club is the defending champion of last year’s national novices, and the competition will be fierce as boxers vie for the top spot.
The championship will continue until Saturday, September 6, 2025, with the finals expected to be thrilling.
