Kitara v Mbarara City

Western Uganda’s football rivalry takes center stage on Friday as Kitara FC lock horns with Mbarara City in a heated derby at Royals Park, Butema. For the hosts, it’s more than just a quest for their first win of the campaign — it’s about reclaiming regional pride after a frustrating start to the season.

The Royals are still smarting from a painful 1-0 loss to local rivals Buhimba United Saints, a defeat that stung more because of the chances they squandered. Head coach Wasswa Bbosa has spent the week fine-tuning his attack, determined to turn dominance into goals.

“We created enough to win, but didn’t take our chances,” Bbosa admitted. “This game is about response — we have to show that Kitara can rise again.”

Mbarara City arrive in Hoima equally eager to kickstart their campaign after collecting just two points from their first three fixtures. The Ankole Lions have been compact but inconsistent, alternating between solid draws and narrow defeats as they search for rhythm under new leadership.

With both sides desperate to build early momentum, the clash promises intensity and emotion. Last season’s double draws offered little to separate them — but in front of their home fans, Kitara know anything less than victory could deepen the early-season unease.

This isn’t just another league match. In Western Uganda, it’s about bragging rights, pride, and proof of who truly rules the region.
