Revamped Magic Stormers Target Regional Glory After Major Squad Overhaul

Uganda’s Magic Stormers have unveiled a revamped and ambitious lineup ahead of the 2025 FIBA Women’s Basketball League Africa Zone V Qualifiers, set to run from November 9–15 at Nairobi’s Nyayo Stadium.

Determined to challenge for continental qualification, the Stormers have executed one of the most high-profile recruitment drives of the season, luring several top names from rival clubs. Among the headline additions are Hope Akello, Zainah Lokwameri, and Ruth Letaru, all joining from defending National Basketball League champions JKL Lady Dolphins.

Their experience will be complemented by exciting young prospects, including Shiprah Kiranda from Kibuli SS, Christine Namyalo from UPDF Lady Tomahawks, and former UCU Lady Canons duo Sylvia Nakituuka and Zoe Atek signalling a blend of youth and experience.

The Stormers have been placed in Group A, a competitive pool featuring Rwanda’s REG, Burundi’s Gladiators, Kenya’s Zetech Sparks, and Tanzania’s DB Lioness. Only the best will earn the ticket to the continental finals in December.

For the Kampala-based side, this campaign represents more than qualification it’s a statement of intent that Magic Stormers are ready to stand tall among Africa’s elite.
