A new Uganda Premier League leader is certain to emerge this afternoon when Entebbe UPPC and Police FC collide at the Fisheries Ground in Bugonga though both camps insist the chase for top spot is secondary to the pursuit of consistency.
UPPC, currently sitting fourth on 10 points, trail the law enforcers by just one. Police, level with KCCA at the summit, know that even a draw could keep them within touching distance of the perch, but coach Matia Lule is treating the match as a statement-making opportunity rather than a table-climbing mission.
“We want a result that strengthens our title ambitions,” Lule said, confident after a productive week of training. “Three points here would confirm that we are serious contenders.”
At Entebbe, the mood is equally determined but more inward-looking. Head coach Godfrey Walusimbi has been focused on reshaping his squad’s mentality after their 4–2 triumph over Calvary. He believes that the mental steel shown in recent weeks is what will define their season rather than temporary table positions.

“Top of the table is not what we are chasing,” Walusimbi said. “We are targeting victory. Our emphasis has been on the players’ mindset, and we expect it to show.”
Police bring the league’s in-form marksman, Congolese forward Bedia Ikamba, whose four goals have already become central to their attack. The visitors also receive a midfield boost with the return of the experienced Said Kyeyune from injury.
UPPC, meanwhile, await late fitness confirmation on winger Samuel Kawawa after he limped off at Midigo. Should he pass the test, he will link up with attacking talents Hassan Ssenyonjo, Isa Bugembe and Steven Munguchi as the hosts look to seize control of the contest on their turf.
Whatever unfolds in Bugonga, the league table will have a new face at the top by the final whistle though for both coaches, the real importance lies in proving their teams are built for the long haul.
