Calvary, UPDF Face High-Pressure Showdown in Midigo as Both Seek Season Reset

Calvary FC step back into Uganda Premier League action with a sense of urgency and uncertainty as they welcome UPDF FC to the Midigo Primary School Grounds. Still without a win this season, the Yumbe-based side enters the fixture searching not just for points, but for direction after a turbulent fortnight off the pitch.

Their last outing a 4–2 defeat to Police proved to be the final chapter for former head coach Jimmy Kintu Mwera, whose departure has left the club operating under interim guidance. With no permanent replacement named yet, Calvary approach the clash hoping stability on the pitch can compensate for the instability around it. A win would lift them from the foot of the 16-team table for the first time this campaign.

Despite their struggles, Calvary have managed to find the net with some regularity, scoring four times across their previous two games. That attacking spark, coupled with home support in Midigo, gives them a glimmer of optimism against a UPDF side grappling with its own frustrations.

UPDF arrive only two points clear of Calvary and have not tasted victory since match day two, when they edged Mbarara City away. Their defensive frailties remain a concern, having kept just one clean sheet in five matches. Head coach Alex Gitta’s position is increasingly under scrutiny, and a poor result in Yumbe could intensify calls for change within the military club’s hierarchy.

For both teams, the match represents more than just three points it’s an opportunity to reset a faltering season and regain a competitive pulse before the campaign slips further out of reach.
