RABAT, Morocco – While the veteran stars often dominate the headlines, the heartbeat of the Uganda Cranes’ camp in Morocco is currently being set by 17-year-old prodigy James Bogere.
The young Masaka Sunshine FC forward, who recently made history as the first Ugandan to score at a FIFA U17 World Cup, described his experience at the ongoing AFCON 2025 as “amazing” in a heart-to-heart reflection on his journey so far.

Bogere isn’t just in Morocco to make up the numbers. In Saturday’s high-stakes “East African Derby” against Tanzania, the teenager proved why head coach Paul Put has so much faith in him.
Coming off the bench in the 76th minute, Bogere’s electric pace and fearlessness immediately unsettled the Taifa Stars’ defense.
It was Bogere’s relentless pressure that led to the game’s most dramatic moment; in the 90th minute, his sharp movement forced Tanzania’s Haji Mnoga into a foul, winning the penalty that nearly snatched all three points for Uganda.
