RABAT – Uganda Cranes striker Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru has showcased true leadership following the dramatic 1-1 draw with Tanzania. After scoring a thumping 80th-minute header to record his first-ever AFCON goal, the striker turned his focus to shielding teammate Allan Okello.
Despite the heartbreak of Okello’s 90th-minute penalty miss, Ikpeazu was quick to praise the playmaker’s bravery and mental strength. “I’m happy to score for my country, but we win and lose as a team,” Ikpeazu said. “It takes a lot of heart to take a penalty under that pressure. Allan is a top player with a great mentality; we stand with him 100%.”
Nigeria in the Crosshairs
Ikpeazu’s debut goal has fueled his hunger for more. Looking ahead to the final Group C showdown, the striker insists the Cranes are not done yet.
“The goal gives us a lift, but the mission is the three points against Nigeria,” he added. “We are going for the win. We have to believe.”
The Mission: Uganda must defeat the Super Eagles in their final match to keep their knockout stage dreams alive.
