Afrobasket qualification earns Gazelles Women’s Day boost package

Gazelles, the national women’s basketball team have received a Women’s Day boost from PostBank Uganda and Crown Beverages Limited (CBL), as an appreciation package towards their great performance at Afro Basket qualifiers.

The team secured a place in the Afro Basket 2025 tournament following a hard-fought 74-63 victory against Egypt.

As a way to celebrate this achievement, PostBank Uganda has collaborated with CBL to give in kind support to activations that are conducted through the office of the Women Commissioner to recognize the team for the hard work and passion showcased on and off the basketball court.

PostBank Uganda’s Head of Marketing and Communications, Priscilla Akora, explained that the bank is committed to supporting excellence and resilience, values that the Gazelles have exemplified on their incredible journey to the AfroBasket tournament, and the 2025 Women’s Day was an opportune time to celebrate them and rallying behind them as they prepare for the tournament come July 2025.

“As a bank dedicated to fostering prosperity for Ugandans, we believe this contribution will make a meaningful impact on the team’s preparations. With youth and women empowerment as one of the key pillars of our Corporate Social Investment, this donation is more than just financial support, it also recognizes, inspires, and uplifts women in sports to accelerate the action they want to see in their personal and professional lives which is in line with the 2025 International Women’s Day theme Accelerate Action,” Akora said.

Againe Sandra, the Corporate Communications Manager at Crown Beverages Limited, emphasized the importance of hydration, especially in light of the recent heat wave with temperatures soaring up to 34 degrees, causing discomfort and the need to constantly take water.

“This initiative with PostBank is timely, and through the Nivana Brand, CBL will donate 400 cartoons of water because hydration is crucial both during and after training sessions, and we hope this will help the team stay refreshed and energized as they prepare for the upcoming tournaments.”

The championship is set to take place from 27th July to 3rd August 2025, in Ivory Coast.

The tournament will serve as qualifier for the FIBA Women’s World Cup and the Olympic Games which take place every four years.

Gazelle’s Deputy Captain, Akello Hope Agnes appreciated PostBank and CBL for celebrating the team. She said this will inspire them to even soar to greater heights as they represent the country in July at the 2025 AfroBasket tournament.
