In a match that pitted two evenly matched West African sides against each other, it was Guinea who made the most of their limited opportunities — and it was their talisman Bangoura who stepped up when it mattered most. The breakthrough came just five minutes into the second half, when the forward found space inside the box and calmly slotted the ball past Niger’s goalkeeper.

However, the celebrations were momentarily put on hold as the referee consulted VAR to review a potential offside in the buildup. After a tense wait, the goal was confirmed, sparking jubilation among the Guinea players and fans in the stands.

From the onset, both teams approached the match with intensity, knowing how crucial the three points would be in a competitive group. Guinea looked the more composed of the two, controlling the tempo and pushing forward with greater purpose. Niger, on the other hand, relied heavily on quick counterattacks and physical play to disrupt Guinea’s rhythm.

Niger had a few opportunities of their own, especially in the first half, but their forwards lacked the clinical edge to capitalize. Guinea’s goalkeeper was also called into action on several occasions and proved equal to the task, ensuring his side kept a clean sheet.

The second half saw a shift in momentum as Guinea began to assert more dominance, spurred on by Bangoura’s goal. Despite late pressure from Niger in search of an equalizer, Guinea’s defense held firm, with captain Sekou Camara leading by example at the back.

The result puts Guinea in a strong position in Group C as they eye a spot in the knockout stages of the tournament, which is exclusively reserved for players plying their trade in domestic leagues. For Niger, the narrow defeat means they will have to regroup quickly ahead of their next fixture if they are to keep their CHAN hopes alive.

This match, played under the lights at theNamboole Stadium, was a showcase of local talent and the growing competitiveness of African football at the home-based level. The atmosphere in the stadium was electric, with Ugandan fans in attendance also showing support for the spirit of the tournament, which is being co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

With CHAN 2024 now gathering steam, Group C is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable, and Guinea will hope that Bangoura’s moment of brilliance marks the beginning of a deep run in the competition.
