Ugandan left-back Shafik Batambuze reminded the region of his elite dead-ball prowess on Friday, curling in a late free-kick to secure a – victory for Kakamega Homeboyz over Sofapaka FC.
The Kenya Premier League (KPL) clash at Bukhungu Stadium saw the home side take an early lead through Peter Thiongo Nganga in the 3rd minute, but it was Batambuze’s 80th-minute strike that settled nerves and confirmed the three points.

The win is a massive statement of intent for the Kakamega-based side, who have now surged to 3rd place in the standings, breathing down the necks of second-placed AFC Leopards.
The KPL will continue over the weekend with several games scheduled to happen at different grounds.
