National Basketball League
City Oilers 48 Rezlife Saints 62
Nam Blazers 82 JT Jaguars 62
A composed and tactically sharp performance saw Namuwongo Blazers sign off the first round of the National Basketball League Uganda with authority, brushing aside JT Jaguars 82-62 at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Friday night.
While the final score suggests a comfortable victory, the contest was anything but straightforward in the early stages. The Jaguars showed intent from the start, controlling the tempo and exploiting fast-break chances to unsettle the Blazers in a tightly contested opening quarter.
However, the tide gradually began to turn as the Blazers found their shooting rhythm from distance. A flurry of three-point shooting helped them edge ahead, though the Jaguars remained within touching distance heading into halftime, refusing to let the game slip away.
The turning point came after the break.
Namuwongo raised their defensive intensity to another level, disrupting the Jaguars’ offensive flow with well-timed traps and smart positioning. The shift in approach suffocated their opponents, forcing turnovers and limiting clean scoring looks. At the same time, the Blazers executed efficiently on offense, steadily building a gap that the Jaguars could not recover from.
By the time the game entered the final quarter, the momentum had fully swung. The Blazers’ lead had ballooned into an unassailable margin, allowing them to cruise through the closing minutes and underline their dominance.
Fataki Nyembo led a balanced scoring effort with 19 points, while Ivan Muhwezi added 16 in a display that highlighted the team’s depth—every player contributed on the scoresheet.
For the Jaguars, Abraham Chuol stood out with a game-high 20 points, but lacked consistent support as the team faded under sustained pressure.
The result sees the Blazers cap off an impressive first-round campaign with a 10-1 record, firmly establishing themselves as serious title contenders. Meanwhile, the Jaguars will look to regroup quickly as they prepare for another stern test against Rezlife Saints in their next outing.
