Uganda National Boxing Team, ‘The Bombers’ has shined at the inaugural WBC Amateur Africa Championship in Lagos. Bombers won six medals of which three are silver and three bronze in various categories.

The six winners come from Zebra Boxing Club and COBAP Boxing Club. Isaac Zebra Ssenyange won bronze, Batte Nuhu (silver), Maduwa Brenda (silver ), Shakur Mugambe (silver), Balyejusa Benon (bronze) and Muleme Katabula (bronze). However COBAP’s Moses Kimera, 51kg and Kololo’s Fatuma Nabikolo 60kg didn’t receive medals after being placed 4th and 5th respectively.

The Zebra Boxing Club duo Isaac Zebra Ssenyange who won Bronze welterweight Class and Shakur Mugambe won Silver Medals in light welterweight at the championship.
Cobcab Boxing Club won four medals, two silver from Maduwa Brenda in flyweight category. Maduwa was the only female medalist in the team. Batte Nuhu won in the Walter weight while Denis Muleme (Walter weight) and Benon Balyejusa won bronze in flyweight category.
The championship was organized by Yucatesco Boxing Promotions, and held at Molade Okoya Thomas indoor sports Hall with fighters from Uganda, Kenya, Togo, Senegal, Ghana, Mali, Cameroon and Nigeria.

The tournament run from February 6th to 8th and saw 42 boxers from eight African countries compete as Nigeria boxers dominated across all weight categories, securing impressive victories.
The president of the African Boxing Union, Houcine Houichi, praised the success of the event.
He noted the importance of providing young boxers with international experience for future competitions, like the World Boxing Championship in Mexico.
