Buddu Ssaza, the defending Masaza Cup champions, has appointed Joseph Kayondo, the 2024/25 Pepsi University League Most Valuable Player, as their new captain ahead of the 2025 Masaza Cup. Kayondo, a talented right full-back, was instrumental in Uganda Martyrs University’s success, lifting the 2025 University League title and earning comparisons to Ugandan legend Paul Hasule.
Kayondo’s Impressive Season
Kayondo had a stellar 2024/25 season, winning multiple titles with Uganda Martyrs Nkozi, including the Masaza Cup, Inter University Trophy, East African University Trophy, and the University Football League. He was named both Defender of the Season and Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the Pepsi University League, scoring 5 goals and providing 2 assists.
New Challenge with Buddu
Kayondo has been instrumental in 2024 Masaza Cup campaign for reigning champions. He replaced Puis Ssebulime who has joined Mawokota.
2025 Masaza Cup Ahead
Buddu Ssaza, with Kayondo at the helm, will face a tough challenge in the 2025 Masaza Cup. They have been paired in the Bulange group alongside record winners Gomba, Busiro, Buluuli, Busujju, and Ssese. The reigning champions will kick off their campaign against Gomba in the official opening match on Saturday, June 21, at the Kitovu Sports Arena in Masaka City.
