The Crested Cranes, Uganda’s senior women’s national football team, are set for a high-stakes clash against regional rivals Kenya on Tuesday evening in the 2025 CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship in Dar es Salaam. After a shaky start, the Crested Cranes have regrouped and are determined to overcome one of their toughest tests yet.

Uganda’s Campaign So Far

The Ugandans began the tournament with a frustrating 1-0 loss to Burundi but bounced back with a commanding 5-0 win over South Sudan to revive their title defense. Forward Sylvia Kabene announced her arrival in the tournament with a scintillating hat-trick against South Sudan and is expected to start again.

Kenya’s Momentum

Kenya, meanwhile, has entered the fixture with fewer games played but greater momentum, following a 3-0 triumph over Burundi. They also have a favorable recent record against Uganda, having defeated the Crested Cranes twice in their last three encounters.

Coach Botes’ Warning

Uganda’s head coach, Sheryl Botes, is fully aware of the significance of the encounter. “Kenya is very structured, particularly in wide areas, and we must be disciplined throughout. Every player needs to understand the importance of this game, and so far, the team has been adapting well to our tactical approach of building from the back.”

Key Players

Experienced goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro is likely to return to the starting lineup after being left out of the previous match following a costly error in the opener. Her presence between the posts could be vital as Uganda looks to contain a dangerous Kenyan attack and keep their semi-final hopes alive.

Tournament Growth

Beyond match preparations, Coach Botes emphasized the need for better organization at the regional level. “For tournaments like CECAFA to grow, the schedule must be properly coordinated. Teams need ample time to plan and prepare. That’s how we raise the standard and develop top players,” she urged.

The stage is set for a thrilling encounter between two regional rivals, with both teams vying for a crucial result.
