Buhimba United Saints will bring down the curtain on a turbulent Uganda Premier League campaign when they take on URA FC at Royals Park in Hoima on Friday.

The fixture was moved ahead of the official final matchday after a scheduling conflict involving Royals Park, which is shared by both Buhimba and Kitara FC. With Kitara also set to host Police on the closing weekend, league organisers opted to have Buhimba’s game played a day earlier.

For the Saints, the encounter marks the conclusion of a season that began with hope but gradually descended into chaos both on and off the pitch.

The newcomers made an eye-catching start to life in the top division, winning their first three matches against Entebbe UPPC, Calvary and Kitara while keeping clean sheets in all of them. At the time, many believed the Hoima-based side could become one of the surprise packages of the season.

But their bright beginning quickly faded after a heavy defeat to BUL, which sparked a lengthy run of poor performances. Since then, the team has endured one setback after another and eventually slipped into the relegation zone.

Off-field instability only worsened the situation. Financial struggles linked to internal leadership disputes reportedly disrupted operations for much of the second round.

The club also found itself at the centre of controversy after players Ayebale Moses, Dudu Ramathan and Fred Nkata were sanctioned by FUFA over allegations connected to match manipulation. The case remains unresolved.

Elsewhere, organisational problems became a recurring theme throughout the campaign. On one occasion, the team turned up late for a league match against Express shortly after then-head coach Robert Mukasa stepped down. Similar scenes unfolded again in their recent trip to face Mbarara City, where kickoff was delayed as the club struggled to gather enough players in time.

That defeat to Mbarara City ultimately sealed Buhimba’s relegation from the top flight.

Away from football matters, the club is currently battling internal legal disputes involving president Julius Ahurra and several officials, including club manager Sutamukama Everest. The disagreements centre on allegations ranging from forged documents to contested share ownership.

Speculation over a possible sale of the club has also intensified in recent weeks, with reports suggesting the team could relocate and adopt a new identity if new investors take over.

As a result, Friday’s clash against URA may not only signal the end of Buhimba’s stay in the Uganda Premier League, but potentially the final appearance of the club in its current structure.
