With the aim of getting match fitness ahead of 2025 AFCON finals, Uganda Cranes defender Elio Capradossi has joined Italian Serie B side, AC Cittadela on a short-term contract.

Capradossi, 28, who was dropped from the Cranes’ squad that faced South Africa in Namboole and Congo Brazzaville (away) in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers group, has been without a club since leaving AC Lecco early this year. This led him to being dropped by coach Joseph Put.

In the terms agreed with Cittadela, the calm and composed centre back will play for them until the end of the season.

During the South Africa (2-0) defeat at Namboole, Uganda looked shaky at the backline without a calm centre back. So Capradossi’s acquiring of a new home came as a blessing to the Uganda Cranes who have just qualified for the 2025 AFCON finals slated for 21 December 2025 – 18 January 2026 in Morocco.

He made his debut for Uganda Cranes in July against Botswana in the World Cup qualifiers game where he impressed many. In the AFCON qualifiers group, he only played one full game (2-2 away game to South Africa) and also had some minutes in the 2-0 win against Congo.
