Sudanese giants Al-Hilal Omdurman secured a hard-fought podium finish at the CECAFA Kagame Cup 2026, defeating South Sudan’s resilient Jamus SC 2-1 in an action-packed third-place playoff match at the Amahoro Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Despite missed opportunities to reach the grand finale, both sides put up a stellar show for the East African football enthusiasts, with a frantic second half delivering all three goals of the encounter.
The game started as a gritty, tactical affair with both teams eager to stamp their authority early on. The physical intensity was high, forcing the referee to flash his yellow card twice in the first half—first to Jamus SC’s Lawrent Ramazani in the 30th minute, followed closely by Al-Hilal’s Petrus Aprocius Magemeno in the 36th minute.
Despite a few half-chances, the first 45 minutes ended in a stalemate.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 54th minute. Al-Hilal’s Ansumana Samura found the back of the net after a brilliant assist from Yaser Awad Boshara Omer, sending the Sudanese contingent into raptures.
Just 12 minutes later, Al-Hilal doubled their advantage in spectacular fashion.
After being awarded a free kick, a beautifully flighted ball into the box met Abdelrazig Taha Yagoub Omer, who executed a textbook header to make it 2-0 in the 66th minute.
Fittingly, it was the first-goalscorer Samura who turned provider, adding an assist to his impressive man-of-the-match resume.
Refusing to go down without a fight, Jamus SC threw everything forward in the dying minutes of the game.
Their persistence paid off in stoppage time when Simon Majak found the net in the 91st minute, courtesy of a neat setup by Hergy Samoni.
However, the late resurgence proved to be a case of too little, too late, as the referee blew the final whistle shortly after, cementing Al-Hilal’s 2-1 victory.
