In one of the most nerve-shredding encounters of the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup, Kenyan champions Gor Mahia FC secured their spot in the grand final after defeating Sudanese giants Al Hilal SC 8-7 on post-match penalties at the Kigali Pelé Stadium.
The semi-final clash delivered high-octane drama from the opening whistle, as both East African powerhouses battled through 120 minutes of intense football that ended 1-1 before being settled from the spot.
Gor Mahia broke the deadlock in the 36th minute under relentless pressure when Al Hilal defender Steven Ebuela inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, putting K’Ogalo ahead.
However, Al Hilal responded with furious intensity before the break. Just as Gor Mahia looked ready to take their lead into the interval, Sierra Leonean forward Ansumana Samura struck deep into stoppage time (45+1’) to restore parity for the Omdurman-based outfit.

Gor Mahia now advance to Friday’s final as they hunt for regional supremacy in East Africa, awaiting the winner of the second semi-final that Pitts Rayon Sport and Jamus SC.
