Kitara FC and Uganda Cranes striker, Denis Omedi is on verge of joining Spanish club, Leganes if all goes well in the ongoing negotiations.

Omedi, whose contract expires with Hoima based club this season, scored for Cranes against South Sudan and South Africa. He’s believed right now to be in Spain in negotiations for the transfer to next month (January 2025).

He did miss Kitara’s last two league games which included a 6-0 win over Mbale Heroes and a 0-0 draw with Vipers.

Sources indicate that apart from Leganes, other clubs including Tanzania’s Yanga African and Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa are also interested in the 30 years old’s signature.

Leganes plays in the Spanish top tier league, La Liga where it’s placed 16 out of 20 clubs. It’s believed that if they successful add Omedi to their squad, they are likely to first put him in their B team (CD Leganes B) which plays in second tier league (Segunda) until the season ends.

CD Leganes B, is the same team where KCCA FC’s defender, Ibrahim Juma had some services on loan before returning to Lugogo based club.

Kitara president, Deo Kasozi some time last month said, “To be realistic, it’s going to be very hard for him to remain at the club. The demands now are beyond what the club can meet. We have a lot of hope that Omedi will get a good team before the second round or next season.”

Under a proposed transfer agreement, Omedi would receive 70% of the transfer fee (approximately sh258m) while Kitara FC retains 30% (sh110m).

Omedi has scored one goal this season, he was the club’s top scorer last season with 14 goals of which one against KCCA in FUFA Super 8 tournament earned him nomination at the FIFA Puskas Awards and the CAF Goal of the Year award where he is competing against Africa’s elite footballers, including Sebastien Haller of Cote d’Ivoire, Abdul Aziz Issah of Dreams FC, and Algeria’s talented duo Sadd Benrahma and Yassine Benza.
