Uganda Cranes defender, Elio Capradossi has finally started life in his new club as he entered as a substitute three days after his move.

On Tuesday November 26th, 2024, Capradossi was unveiled by AS Cittadella, an Italian Serie B club under terms of playing for them until the end of the season.

Coach Alessandro Dal Canto on Saturday did waste any time as he introduced the calm and composed centre back in the 87th minute of the game against Juve Stabia which ended 2-2.

Out of 20 clubs, Cittadella sits at the bottom of the Serie B log with 13 points from 15 games. Capradossi, came in for Stefano Piccinini which was good news for the Uganda Cranes to see the him back to the pitch as he aims to get match fitness ahead of 2025 AFCON finals which Uganda Cranes already qualified for.

Dal Canto, 49, was full of praise for the Cranes back as he said he will be vital in their relegation battles as they just two wins away from 8th placed Brescia which is the cut off place for Serie B quarter final playoffs.

Capradossi, 28, who was dropped from the Cranes’ squad that faced South Africa in Namboole and Congo Brazzaville (away) in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers group, has been without a club since leaving AC Lecco early this year. This led him to being dropped by coach Joseph Put.

During the South Africa (2-0) defeat at Namboole, Uganda looked shaky at the backline without a calm centre back. So Capradossi’s acquiring of a new home came as a blessing to the Uganda Cranes who have just qualified for the 2025 AFCON finals slated for 21 December 2025 – 18 January 2026 in Morocco.

He made his debut for Uganda Cranes in July against Botswana in the World Cup qualifiers game where he impressed many. In the AFCON qualifiers group, he only played one full game (2-2 away game to South Africa) and also had some minutes in the 2-0 win against Congo.
