Denis Omedi, Kitara FC’s striker, has emerged as the favorite to win the prestigious CAF Goal of the Year award. The forward earned his nomination thanks to a breathtaking rabona goal scored against KCCA FC in the FUFA Super 8 tournament held in August.
The goal, which showcased extraordinary technique and flair, has drawn widespread acclaim across the footballing community, putting Omedi in the spotlight. Winning this award would mark a historic moment for both the player and Ugandan football, further cementing his status as one of the top players on the continent.

CAF announced the shortlist for the Goal of the Year award on Sunday, featuring 11 outstanding goals scored in various CAF competitions between January and October 2024.
Kitara FC President Deo Kasozi has expressed his delight over Omedi’s nomination for the prestigious CAF Goal of the Year award, marking another milestone for the forward after his earlier nomination for the FIFA Puskas Award.
“We are happy that Omedi once again has had his goal nominated for the CAF awards. This shows his determination and character as a player. We hope he wins it. This has been a good year for Omedi for both club and the national team,” said Kasozi.
Omedi joins a lineup of Africa’s elite footballers, including Sébastien Haller of Côte d’Ivoire, Abdul Aziz Issah of Dreams FC, and Algeria’s talented duo Saïd Benrahma and Yassine Benza. Benza’s stunning goal is another strong contender for the award, adding to the fierce competition.
The race for the CAF Goal of the Year award has officially begun, with fans playing a decisive role in the outcome. Voting, which accounts for 70% of the final decision, is now open on CAF’s official website and social media platforms and will close on 12 December 2024. A panel of CAF technical experts will contribute the remaining 30% of the decision. The winner will be crowned at the CAF Awards Gala on December 16 in Marrakech, Morocco.
