Mozambique’s 3-1 victory over Uganda on Thursday has propelled them to the top of Group G in the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers.
Both Mozambique and Algeria now have 9 points each, but Mozambique leads on goal difference. Uganda’s defeat leaves them with 6 points, placing them fifth in the group.

The match, held at Cairo International Stadium, saw Mozambique’s playmaker Pepo deliver a standout performance, scoring two goals and assisting the third.
Uganda’s goalkeeper, Isma Watenga, faced challenges throughout the game, including conceding a goal directly from a corner kick. In fact he was later replaced by Nafian Alionzi. Stanley Ratifo scored the third for Mozambique.

Muhammad Shaban scored Uganda’s only goal.
Additionally, Uganda’s forward Denis Omedi received a red card, reducing the team to ten men before halftime.
This result intensifies the competition in Group G, with Uganda’s next match scheduled against Guinea on March 25 at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.
