Uganda’s dream of reaching the knockout stages of the TotalEnergies CAF Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations will be on the line on Tuesday evening when the Cubs take on Ivory Coast in their final Group B match in Rabat, Morocco.
After two contrasting performances in the tournament, the young Ugandans now find themselves heading into a high-stakes encounter that could determine whether their campaign continues beyond the group phase and whether a historic FIFA Under-17 World Cup slot remains within reach.
The Cubs announced themselves in style with an impressive 3-0 triumph over DR Congo in their opening game, displaying confidence, discipline, and attacking sharpness that immediately raised expectations around the team.
But momentum slowed in the second outing after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Cameroon, leaving Uganda needing a strong finish against the Ivorians to stay firmly in the qualification race.

Tuesday’s encounter at the Mohammed VI Football Complex presents perhaps the biggest challenge yet for the East Africans, who come up against an Ivory Coast side already assured of both quarterfinal qualification and a ticket to the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Qatar.
The West Africans have been one of the standout teams in the group, registering victories over Cameroon and DR Congo to collect maximum points and take control of Group B before the final round of matches.
Despite having already secured progression, Ivory Coast are expected to maintain their intensity as they seek to preserve their unbeaten run and carry momentum into the knockout rounds.
For Uganda, however, the stakes are far greater.
The Cubs know that a positive result could transform their campaign and erase the disappointment of the Cameroon defeat. The team will also be motivated by the opportunity to make history against opponents they have never previously faced at this level.
Uganda returned to the continental tournament determined to improve on past performances that ended at the group stage, and Tuesday’s clash now offers the clearest measure yet of the team’s growth and resilience.
